AR5

Active Ribbon Microphone

Find A Dealer

The AR5 is an active ribbon microphone. Ribbon mics are known for a warm sound with an exceptionally smooth top end. Theyre often used to record vocals, guitar amplifiers, drum overheads, brass instruments, and more.

The integrated active circuitry requires 48V phantom power for increased output compared to a passive design, and greater consistency in frequency and dynamic response when used with different preamps.

The asymmetrical figure-8 pickup pattern has an extended sweet spot on the rear face of the microphone to fully capture ambient reverberation, so the AR5 is a great choice for recording tracks with a natural sense of space.

While ribbon mics have a reputation for being delicate, the AR5 can handle high input levels up to 150 decibels. Its nuanced enough for acoustic performances, but durable enough to withstand a roaring speaker cabinet. Its also protected with a precision-tooled brass body and dent-resistant stainless steel mesh, and comes with a shockmount and carrying case.

The AR5 offers the classic sound of ribbon microphones with the modern convenience of an active design. Whether used alone for its rich character, or combined with other mics for a full, layered sound, its a powerful addition to any mic collection.
