Applied Research and Technology was founded in Rochester, New York in 1984.
The first ART products were rackmount digital reverbs. Over the years, we expanded to offer amplifiers, mixers, and signal processors for guitar and bass. Today, we make a wide variety of creative audio solutions for project and professional studios, live performance, and installed sound.
Our best-known product is the Tube MP. It was designed to make tube mic preamps, previously found almost exclusively in big-budget studios, accessible to any musician. It’s still in production, and 2025 marks thirty years of the little black box that has warmed up countless recordings around the world.
Yorkville Sound was one of ART’s original distributors, and we officially joined the Yorkville family in 1999. Today, product development is headquartered outside of Toronto, Canada, in collaboration with a team that remains in upstate New York.
Our goal is the same as it was in 1984: to make great-sounding musical equipment that is affordable, easy to use, and built to stand the test of time.
